Prime Minister J.P. Balkenende

In 2012, Daan van Doorn had the honor and pleasure of painting a portrait of Prof. Dr. J.P. Balkenende on commission from the Dutch Ministry of General Affairs.

Portrait of Prime Minister Balkenende for the Blue Room

In 2012, I painted the official portrait of Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende for the Blue Room in the Binnenhof on commission from the Dutch Ministry of General Affairs. This was a special assignment, not only because of its historical significance but also due to the pleasant and warm contact I had with Mr. Balkenende. After the unveiling, we stayed in regular touch, and he often visited me at openings, fairs, and exhibitions—a testament to his genuine interest in my work.

The portrait captured not only his appearance but also his leadership and human side. The classic yet contemporary style aligns with the dignity of the Blue Room, where it now hangs among other historical portraits.

This project was a confirmation of my craftsmanship and an unforgettable experience. It demonstrates that a portrait is more than just an image: it is a timeless legacy with both personal and historical value.
